The Department of Special Education/504 offers a variety of interventions and supports for Lago Vista ISD students and their families. Lago Vista ISD Special Education/504 staff identify and provide an appropriate education for all individuals who qualify for the District’s services under either of these programs.
Local education agencies/school districts (LEA's) must ensure that a free appropriate public education is provided to all individuals with disabilities ages 3-21 who qualify for Special Education services. These services include individual instructional plans and related services provided by the LEA/school district for students who have one or more of the following disabilities according to federal criteria and who also have a demonstrated educational need for special education services:
- Speech or language impairment
- Deaf or hard of hearing
- Visual impairment including blindness
- Deaf-Blindness
- Orthopedic impairment
- Specific Learning Disability
- Intellectual Disability
- Emotional Disturbance
- Autism
- Other Health Impairment
- Multiple Disabilities
- Traumatic Brain Injury
The District also has specific responsibilities under Section 504 which include the responsibility to identify, evaluate and, if the student is determined to be eligible under Section 504, to afford access to necessary educational accommodations.
