VASE Victories for Viking ArtistsFeb 14, 2026

Our Vikings competed at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), going up against 1A-6A schools from across the region - and they showed up in a big way! We are beyond proud of the dedication, creativity, and countless hours poured into every single piece. That hard work paid off, our artists literally came home with a bag full of medals! Every student earned either a Superior or Excellent rating. We’re celebrating numerous regional medalists, multiple area qualifiers, and even more exciting, two pieces advancing to the state level! The talent in Viking Nation is unreal (believable!).

By Kennedi McSkimming By Lucy Rees

Please congratulate: Lewis Badger, Laney Bentley, Alyssa Black, Marlowe Coale, Samantha Dowden, Nicholas Garcia, Lily Hahn, Tripp Henderson, Beatrix Inman, Hannah Koenning, Ava Lancaster, Jonas Larkin, Amalie Melendez, Leighton Melendez, Zoe Plumlee, Elena Prescott, Claire Ragland, Julia Richards, Kandice Richardson, Zachary Rothenbury, Allisen Shipp, Melanie Stamnitz, Avery Thompson, Mariana Tonche, Daniel Wolf Foster, Haley Wray and Quinyu Zhan!

And our two state bound artists! Kennedi McSkimming and Lucy Rees! They will go to the state event in April with a chance to become a state medalist!

PEC 2026 YOUTH TOUR DELEGATE

Kudos to Kandice Richardson on being selected as a 2026 Youth Tour Delegate for Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC)!

Chosen from more than 100 applicants, Kandice earned one of just eight coveted spots. The selection process was no small feat - students submitted a written essay, secured a recommendation letter, and participated in a formal panel interview. Making it through such a competitive process speaks volumes about her work ethic, leadership, and character.

This June, she’ll join nearly 1,500 delegates from across the country for an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.. While there, she’ll tour historic landmarks, meet with state and national leaders, and build connections with students from all over the United States.

We couldn’t be more proud of the way she represents Viking Nation—way to go, Kandice!

Smoked It! January 10, 2026

The LVHS Rowin’ Smoke BBQ teams had an amazing weekend.

The amount of time these students commit to making amazing food is incredible - giving up their weekends just to practice. This was the first ever competition for 6 of the 8 team members.

Even though categories are submitted individually, these kids work as a team! This weekend was a wonderful example of that. Wind speeds were 20-30 mph. and stuff was flying everywhere. We had kids holding bowls for each other while making batters and glazes. They were creating human walls to block the wind and even had to hold cutting boards for each other while they were slicing and boxing meat. When things went wrong they were there to help pick up pieces and encourage each other. All 8 deserve much congratulations.

There were 15 teams competing.

Cheer Champs

Lago Vista Cheer came home from the UCA Houston Regional this weekend with two titles and two bids to the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida.

Our very first JV comp team made history by winning the Small JV Game Day division and grabbed one of the few JV bids to Nationals awarded on Sunday. Our varsity team took the title in a very tough Large Varsity Game Day division that included the defending 4A-D2 state champions.

These kids were on their feet cheering for JV football, varsity football, and varsity volleyball the three nights preceding this competition, and still got it done on Sunday after a 4:45 am call time. We are in for big things from this group.

Thanks for rowing with us! Our next competition is the UCA Southwest Regional at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, TX on Sunday, November 23.
